Altyn Asyr fell behind in the seventh minute but recovered to score twice heading into the break before adding the third, with East Bengal netting a late consolation.
“I want to commend my players for the win,” said Hojageldiyev. “East Bengal played well and scored the first goal, but we fought back and netted twice in the first half. We worked very hard, and I’m happy we have qualified for the group stage of the AFC Champions League Two.”
East Bengal fought back in the latter stages of the match, especially after Saul Crespo’s goal brought the Indian side within touching distance, but Hojageldiyev’s men kept the door firmly shut to clinch the win.
“After netting a third in the second half, we did everything we could to hold our lead, but East Bengal made it tough with their second goal.”
Victory sees Altyn Asyr take their place in Friday’s AFC Champions League Two draw and Hojageldiyev stressed the importance of staying focused.
“Now we have to switch our attention to the group stage. We must continue to work hard if we are to compete at this level.”
Despite the defeat, East Bengal head coach Carles Cuadrat expressed pride in his team’s performance and looked forward to the AFC Challenge League.
“It was a game where we finished fighting for the win. We hit the post, we scored a goal that was ruled out. We fought until the end, and I’m proud of the team,” said Cuadrat. “We had the chance to win today, but Altyn Asyr is a strong team with talented players.
“With this experience, I believe the Challenge League will be a great opportunity for us to show our level and grow as a team.”
