Head Coach: Shin Tae-yong (KOR)
Fun Fact: Indonesia are making their first-ever appearance in the third round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the current format.
Head coach Shin Tae-yong knows a thing or two about taking a team to a FIFA World Cup, having rescued Korea Republic from a flagging qualifying campaign to reach Russia 2018 but the tactician knows his Indonesia side face a massive challenge.
“If we look at the FIFA rankings, we are aware there won’t be any easy games for us,” he said. “Our ranking at 134 makes us one of the lowest ranked sides of all those that reached Round 3.

“However, that is not a deterrent to my dreams or the players’ dreams. We will give it our all and never give up.”Given Indonesia’s ranking, Shin knows that Indonesia will not draw easy opponents with the Southeast Asian side looking to emulate the squad of the 1938 edition – then known as Dutch East Indies – by qualifying for upcoming global showpiece.
“It’s almost certain that we’ll meet one of three from Korea Republic, Japan or (Islamic Republic of) Iran. Of the three, Korea Republic are the ones I know more of – so that could be better for us.

“For the other teams, if we get sides that we’ve played before, then I’m confident we will be able to fight for third or fourth position. We have to contemplate all possibilities, including the playoffs.”
