Rinyaphat Moondong scored one and assisted another, helping Kritsada Phungmali’s side to claim a comeback win as Australia ended their campaign with a third straight defeat.
Australia were first to warm up to the task with Emma Dundas’s shot from outside the box testing Benyapa Singsai but Thailand responded with an effort from even further away by Phatcharaphorn Khuchuea that almost squirmed in underneath Caoimhe Bray.
The deadlock was broken on 31 minutes with Australia getting in front but only after three attempts. Talia Younis’ header crashed against the bar with Indiana Dos Santos’ follow-up hitting the post before Lily Punch poked home the opener.
Thailand responded seven minutes later when Kurisara Limpawanich used her pace to good effect, bursting in between Annabelle Yates and Sian Dewey before slotting past the advancing Bray.
Australia had a chance to retake the lead in first half stoppage time when Tiana Fuller was presented with a shooting opportunity, only for Benyapa to pull off a superb reflex save to tip the ball over the bar.
The opening minutes of the second half saw minimal chances with Rinyaphat’s free-kick in the 49th minute sailing over the bar but it was a sign of things to come.
Goalscorer Kurisara was taken down by Bray on the edge of the box in the 67th minute, with midfielder Rinyaphat curling a low shot past Bray into the bottom corner.
The closest Australia came to forcing the equaliser was with five minutes left to play when Meyers broke down the left to cross to Younis but the midfielder’s effort went straight at Benyapa.
As Australia pushed more players forward, Thailand broke free in the sixth minute of stoppage with Rinyaphat cleverly finding Chutikan Kitkhun for their third goal.
