Australia head coach Leah Blayney is confident her coaching staff have done their homework on the Uzbeks and the players are raring to follow up their 2-1 win over Korea Republic on Sunday with another three points.
“We are prepared to face Uzbekistan and we will thoroughly research their strengths and weaknesses,” said Blayney.
“With the right game plan, we will be looking forward to the challenge of playing against the host country, which is always a great experience.”Goals from Peta Trimis and Naomi Thomas-Chinnama saw Australia come from behind to claim an opening day win and they will be looking to inflict a second defeat on Uzbekistan, who lost to Chinese Taipei in their opener.
A win for Australia could potentially seal a place in the knockout stage should Chinese Taipei beat Korea Republic in the other match.
Having lost 2-0 to Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan are in a precarious position in the race to qualify for the semi-finals.Head coach Ilkham Khanjariev wants his charges to forget about Sunday’s result and focus on achieving a positive result against Australia.
“Australia are probably the strongest team in the group so we have to prepare for that, we will work hard to make sure that we can challenge them,” said Khanjariev.
“Losing in the first game was difficult to take but we have to forget that now and start with a clean slate. Every game is a must win for us.”
