Yakob Sayuri – Indonesia
vs Iraq, January 15
Indonesia returned to the AFC Asian Cup for the first time since 2007 and after falling behind to Iraq in their opening match, Yakob Sayuri produced a moment of magic. The PSM Makassar winger picked up a pass on the right flank, nutmegged his marker and evaded two defenders before squaring the ball across to Marselino Ferdinan who slotted the ball into an empty net in a sequence that lit up the tournament in its opening stages.

Ali Saleh – United Arab Emirates
vs Palestine, January 18

Paulo Bento’s United Arab Emirates (UAE) had got off to a winning start and were looking to continue the momentum against Palestine in their next match. The hunger was evident in the first half when Khalifa Al Hammadi dispossessed his opponent with a sliding challenge in the centre circle. The ball was then played out to the right to Ali Saleh, who took a touch before delivering a peach of a cross onto the forehead of teenage striker Sultan Adil to head home the opener in style.

Akram Afif – Qatar
vs China PR, January 22

A contender for goal of the tournament, this special strike from Hassan Al Haydos was as much about the creation and vision of provider Akram Afif. With all eyes on the 66th minute of the tie between Qatar and China PR focused on the players jostling for position in the box at a set-piece, corner kick taker Afif ignored the crowd and perfectly picked out his captain, who dispatched a first-time volley from the edge of the area: the perfect one-two punch.

Ritsu Doan – Japan
vs Indonesia, January 24

Samurai Blue were looking to reassert their dominance against Indonesia after a shock defeat against Iraq, and Ritsu Doan orchestrated a wonderful second goal. The 25-year-old picked up the ball in midfield, passed it to Keito Nakamura, overlapped his teammate on the left wing and then delivered a first-time low cross that evaded three Indonesian defenders to find Ayase Ueda unmarked at the far post who made no mistake from close range.

Seol Young-woo – Korea Republic
vs Saudi Arabia, January 30

Seol Young-woo is one of the rising stars of Korean football as he continues to shine for both club and country on the continental stage, and he made a telling contribution against Saudi Arabia in the Round of 16. With their backs against the wall as time almost ran out, a cross found Seol Young-woo on the left and instead of going for goal the Ulsan Hyundai full-back cleverly headed the ball across the goal for Cho Gue-sung who remarkably equalised in the 99th minute.

Sardar Azmoun – IR Iran
vs Japan, February 3

Team Melli trailed Japan by a goal in the quarter-final but managed to turn the game on its head in the second half. After winning the ball back in midfield, it was passed forward to the path of Sardar Azmoun who played a perfectly weighted through ball for Mohammad Mohebi to bring the Iranians level with his fourth international goal.
