USA and Mexico have qualified for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2024™ after seeing off Haiti and Canada respectively in the last four of the Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship.
The semi-final victors will now face off in the final of the regional showpiece, which is being hosted at the Mexican Football Federation’s headquarters in Toluca.
The Americans will head into that decider brimming with confidence after a 7-1 demolition of Haiti. A stunning late hat-trick from Kimmi Ascanio, notched up between the 83rd and 88th minutes, set the seal on a ruthless display from the tournament’s record five-time champions.
Mexico, by contrast, were made to sweat for their place in the final, with extra time required against a highly competitive Canada team.
The hosts took the lead through Carla Montes Frias’ deflected effort but were pegged back in the second half when the lively Annabelle Chukwu lashed home an equaliser. Vanessa Aguilar popped up 11 minutes into extra time to break Canadian hearts, however, and set up a titanic Concacaf decider.
Besides the final, Mexico and USA can now look forward to flying the flag for their region alongside Dominican Republic, who are due to host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup between 16 October and 3 November
