The Manchester City midfielder discusses their FIFA Club World Cup win over Urawa Reds, the final against Fluminense and his desire to lift the trophy.

Jack Grealish has belted out We Are The Champions, one of Queen’s most emblematic anthems, umpteen times on Karaoke sets across the planet. Now he wants to earn the right to sing it atop a Jeddah podium on Friday.

The Manchester City No10 took a step towards earning it against Urawa Reds. Grealish tormented Takahiro Sekine throughout and concocted a chance for Bernardo Silva with an imaginative dink en route to a 3-0 victory in the FIFA Club World Cup Saudi Arabia 2023™ semi-finals.
“I think in the first half we could have possibly played better,” the 28-year-old told FIFA. “We were a quite lucky that we had the own-goal.

“We had a lot of the ball, but I don’t think we threatened the goal as much as we’d have liked. Obviously we knew in our heads that we were going to dominate the second half, and I think that’s what we did.”

Now City will attempt to become the first English side to conquer the competition at the first time of asking – Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea previously failed – against Fluminense.

“I watched a little bit of the game [against Al Ahly] the other day,” said Grealish. “I think now that we’re in the final, we’ll put in a lot of work over the next couple of days. But before the game it was all about this game. It was full concentration.

“It would be unbelievable [to become a world champion]. This is what we want. This is what we’ve come here for. The manager’s made that clear as well. Fingers crossed we can win it.”
