Erling Haaland missed Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Luton Town with a foot injury, but Pep Guardiola is optimistic on the Norwegian’s chances of being fit for the FIFA Club World Cup Saudi Arabia 2023™ semi-finals.

“Hopefully we can recover him for the World Cup,” said the City manager. “It’s a bone stress reaction in his foot. Week by week, day by day, we will see what happens.

“Erling has been so important since he’s arrived. But during the season we see this sort of thing. Injuries, suspensions, problems – we have to adapt.”

City travel to Crvena Zvezda in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, though the holders have already won Group G. They then host Crystal Palace in the Premier League before jetting out to Jeddah.

There, they will face Leon or Urawa Red Diamonds in the last four.
