Horst Hrubesch has been appointed interim coach of Germany’s women’s national team “until further notice” as Martina Voss-Tecklenburg’s illness-enforced absence continues. Hrubesch, 72, will be assisted by Thoman Norenberg, with Britta Carlson – who had been deputising for Voss-Tecklenburg – set to continue in a coaching role.
“With a view to the hopefully continuing recovery of Martina Voss-Tecklenburg as well as in consideration of sporting developments, Hrubesch and Norenberg are taking over until further notice,” the DFB announced in a statement. Hrubesch, a legendary former Germany international who has held various roles with the DFB over recent decades, is also director of the youth academy performance centre at Hamburg. He will combine that role with his new responsibilities, and said he had no hesitation in accepting the federation’s offer.
