Singapore’s captain discusses the Lions’ hopes ahead of Asia’s FIFA World Cup 26 qualifiers kicking off.

Captain Hariss Harun first donned the Singapore jersey at the age of 16, setting a new record as the youngest-ever player to represent the Lions.

As a midfield dynamo, he ranks among the best players ever produced by his country and was part of the squad that secured a famous triumph at the AFF Championship in 2012.

Despite being just 32, he has seen numerous managers come and go, experienced various highs and lows, but remains steadfast as the team’s leader, having worn the armband for the best part of a decade.

With a list of achievements that includes numerous domestic titles in both Singapore and Malaysia, as well as winning the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup in 2015, Harun’s experience and trophy collection surpass that of his peers, and his influence will be pivotal to Singapore’s chances in the upcoming FIFA World Cup 26™ qualifiers against Guam.

“We played them once a couple of years ago, and we saw the U-23’s play them recently, so we know they’re going to be physically demanding,” remarked Harun in a recent chat with FIFA.

“That’s their style of play. We have to figure out a way to navigate through that and be as effective as possible,” he added, underscoring the necessity to adapt to varying playing styles.
